JUNGIAN LEARNING COMMUNITY - 2010
If you are a trained counsellor or psychotherapist interested in learning more about Jungian thought as it might assist your practice or self development, you are invited to contact the co-ordinator below to learn more.
The following is a short description of how we function:
The ‘JLC’ consists of a group of about 12 trained counsellors and therapists, not necessarily with prior Jungian knowledge, who meet monthly in Cambridge from September to June. At our June meeting, we establish the programme of topics for the following 10 monthly meetings.
We bring into focus a topic of Jungian interest with a view to broadening and deepening our practice and assisting our own individuation journey. It is not formally connected to, nor is it a part of, the Cambridge Jungian Circle.
‘The Community’ has been running for over 10 years - we are a self-teaching and self-regulating group, which occasionally invites someone from outside to speak with us. The idea is that, by doing the necessary research on an aspect of Jungian thought, we offer our understanding to the other members, thus learning bests ourselves – the topic is then shared and discussed with the rest of the group.
The format which has successfully evolved is that each topic, chosen by the group, has three meetings devoted to it. The presenter may be one person or more, in which case, different aspects of the topic may be offered by each person.
The first meeting is biased towards a general conceptual understanding, which the presenter/s will provide.
The next meeting will then usually explore how this may be relevant to our clinical work.
Finally, in the last meeting, there is a summary discussion of elements from the previous two meetings, as well as fresh thinking being brought in. Thus a key part is the group discussion, while experiential work is also part of the process, particularly in the two later meetings.
The JLC is, in effect, a co-operative and the annual costs are shared equally between us. The cost last year for example was just £3.50 per meeting per member, paid annually, but this depends partly on the number of members.
We meet in the pleasant atmosphere of the Friends Meeting House in Hartington Grove, Cambridge, from 7.30—9.30 pm on the third Tuesday of each month.
